Rahab's Next Right Thing...
Now Joshua the son of Nun sent out two men…to spy secretly, saying, "Go, view the land, especially Jericho.” So they went, and came to the house of a harlot named Rahab…
Joshua 2:1
Now, I can only imagine what you are thinking here. What in the world were the two Hebrew spies doing at the home of Rahab, the harlot?? Well, it was probably the only place in all of Jericho where they could hide out and not be conspicuous as strangers in a strange city.
Whatever the reason the two men ended up in Rahab’s parlor, it was a divine appointment on God’s magnificent, out-of-the-box calendar. So, what does this event have to do with our taking a new step forward or in a different direction in life? Everything.
Yes, I do believe in free will. Yet the Lord God is sovereign and persistently pursues us with supernatural collisions of His grace. He is always after us. He always offers something new. He is consistently revealing His love, even in the midst of our every circumstance. Not one of us is too far down the road to outrun God’s love.
Like Moses’ burning bush in the desert, Rahab could have ignored her appointment with His destiny. But the Lord had been preparing her heart for this encounter (Joshua 2:9-13). Rahab chose to do the next right thing that was presented before her. She changed directions. She opened the door to God’s miraculous new.
Rahab’s calculated decision to do the right thing by helping the spies changed her life, her family’s, and the course of history. Her scarlet cord thrown out the window extends all the way through to the lineage of the Messiah and His cross (Matthew 1:5).
So, tell me. What is your next right thing to do on your new journey? It may open the door that brings all the new direction you’ve been seeking.
