Eternal Impact
"So is my word that goes out from my mouth: It will not return to me empty, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it."
(Isaiah 55:11 NIV)
God’s Word has the power to change lives, and the impact of sharing it can reach far beyond what we see or understand into eternity.
The stakes are of the highest importance in the Kingdom of God. The lives of God’s precious children hang in the balance between Heaven and Hell on a daily basis.
I do not say this to alarm you, it is simply a fact, one that we can often discount in favour of a more comfortable life. But there is an urgency to our sharing. Our witness can have an eternal impact.
In this age, what we share has the potential to touch countless lives - both near and far.
Even though we may not always see immediate results, we can trust that God is working through our efforts, and His Word will accomplish its purpose.
I once heard the analogy that, through us sharing our faith with those we have been called to do life alongside, we may not get to see the final result (salvation and authentic discipleship) in our times, but we may be able to encourage that person from level 2 on ‘the ladder of salvation and discipleship’, to perhaps a level 6.
Then another follower of Jesus may be called into that individual's life and progress them from level 6 to 8. Then a final person may come alongside that person and get to pray the prayer of salvation with them – level 10!
Do not lose heart if you do not see the results you want to when sharing your faith. You never know what is going on in the hearts and minds – and souls – of those you are being openly Christian around.
Keep developing new ways to reach out and share Jesus with others. You never know how or to whom or when your boldness will bear fruit.
Consider your own journey to salvation. How did God use the people around you in that season to reach you with the Gospel?
Bear that in mind when sharing your own faith. Innovation is wonderful, but so are the tried-and-true methods of evangelism.
The key factor is that we do not give up or lose heart. As scripture tells us in Galatians 6:9, at the proper time, we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.
Application:
- Reflect on the long-term impact your witness can have. Commit to consistency in sharing Gospel-centered communication.
