The Call to Go

"Then Jesus came to them and said, 'All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptising them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.'"

(Matthew 28:18-20 NIV)

The Great Commission is a universal calling for all believers.

It’s a directive to “go” into the world and spread the Good News of Jesus.

We can get ourselves bent out of shape about our calling – what is my purpose? Where should I go? What should I be doing? But the fundamental truth is that we all have the same calling and it is to share the Jesus that we have come to know and love.

The exciting part of this call is that it is going to be successful. There is a scriptural promise that tells us so:

‘Now I say to you that you are Peter (which means ‘rock’), and upon this rock I will build my church, and all the powers of hell will not conquer it.’

(Matthew 16:18 NLT, emphasis added)

Whether one believer remained on the earth or one billion, the call and mission of the church is going to be fruitful, nothing can stop it!

So, whether we travel across the globe to share this timeless message, or engage with our local community, sharing the Gospel is part of our identity as followers of Christ.

If you had the cure for cancer in your hands, you would likely want to share this good news with all who suffer – both directly and indirectly – so that this disease can be conquered.

How much more must we consider the Good News of Jesus, salvation and heaven urgent and something that every soul needs?

In a rapidly changing world, our "going" can look different - online conversations, social media posts, and virtual missions have all become almost commonplace- but the core message remains the same – Jesus died and rose again so that every soul can live in connection with their Father in Heaven and be reunited with Him one day in eternity.

So, my friends, as believers in Jesus, we must go. To the ends of the street and the ends of the earth. We. Must. Go.
