Faith Like a Child
By Sarah P
While Jesus has been performing amazing miracles, Jesus challenges conventional thinking and imparts crucial lessons to his disciples. He emphasizes a mindset of prioritizing service to others over self-interest, embracing childlike simplicity in understanding, casting away sinful behaviors, and valuing God's intended design for marriage while cautioning against divorce.
These teachings offer profound insights into Kingdom living.
Firstly, Jesus stresses the significance of serving others, urging us to care for fellow believers and those unaware of God. This perspective directs our focus upward and around us, identifying opportunities to share the gospel and advance the Kingdom we are destined to inherit.
Secondly, using Jesus' name when seeking miracles is encouraged, promising His authority and blessing to all who use it. We need to submit our cares and worries under His name daily to invite in peace and self-control.
Most importantly, Jesus emphasizes the need for self-reflection and repentance to live by His teachings, using a graphic example like gouging out an eye causing sin to highlight the gravity of recognizing sin and getting rid of it.
Additionally, He mentions the sanctity and permanence of God's design for marriage. We are to nurture and cherish it in every way.
Lastly, Jesus encourages a childlike, humble approach to these teachings. We are to get rid of ego and prideful knowledge and submit ourselves to God much like a child does to a loving Father. This humility helps us better receive and live out Kingdom principles.
Altogether, Jesus urges us to practice selfless service, use His name for miracles, confront and eliminate sin, honor the sanctity of marriage, and embrace humility and simplicity in our pursuit of the Kingdom. By doing so, we align our lives with Jesus' transformative teachings and experience the richness of His Kingdom.
In your journaling, write down three ways you can adopt childlike thinking in your faith and ask the Holy Spirit to help you nurture those characteristics.
