Opening the Bible

DAY 16 OF 18

It’s a lifetime pursuit

Reading the Bible is a lifetime pursuit. It requires patience. It’s beautiful that you desire to want to know the Word. It’s good that you’re spiritually hungry. 1st Peter says, “Like newborn babies, crave pure spiritual milk, so that by it you may grow up in your salvation.” Have you ever seen newborn babies take a bottle? Their mouths are all over the place because they’re hungry.

Now that you know your heart is in the right place, that the desire and spiritual hunger is within you, then what’s next? You get started.

The Scriptures, although constant, continually have new meaning and application in our lives every day. After being a Christian for many years, I have read some Scriptures hundreds of times. However, each time I read them, they have a new meaning, a new depth, a new perspective, a new application because although the Scripture is the same, I am being continually transformed.

Maybe you’ve even read the Bible cover to cover before and you think you’ve got all you could get out of it. Can I encourage you to look at it in a fresh way today?

Prayer | God I thank You that You are working anew every day. I thank You that as I reengage in reading the Bible, may You break it open afresh. Let it burn a new desire in my heart. Amen.
