As we start our final leg of exploring how to be a partaker of a heavenly calling we must consider what it means to be a servant in all that we do. Most people have heard the saying “If serving is beneath you then leadership is beyond you”, and Jesus showed us the greatest example in His ministry. On the night He would be betrayed He humbled himself and washed the feet of His disciples. There is no better picture of leadership that what our Lord did in that moment.
In our careers, it can often feel like a rat race to the top. Modern thinking lends us to always focus on what’s in it for me instead and loyalty is only as far as the next promotion. As we pursue the higher callings in our lives, keeping a servants mindset is crucial. Whether He has called you to the industrial sector, healthcare, real estate, or any other, our duty as Believers is to approach each opportunity as a chance to serve.
I’ve often noticed that when the focus shifts to serving others instead of myself, the relationships formed are stronger and authentic. When we remember that Jesus left us with a simple call to love others, it seems that serving is at the core of that condition. As you consider your career, and whether you are a fellow partaker of the heavenly calling for your life, simply ask yourself are you using your talents to faithfully build what God desires with a mission of serving others? I pray you are and remember that if you walk in obedience with what He desires for your life that is how you find joy and peace in the heavenly calling He desires for you the most.
Questions to Consider:
- What would a focus on serving others mean you would need to change in your career?
- When do you see authentic service from others the most? How often do you see that reflected in yourself?

About this Plan
Can there be honor in work that is not “ministry”? In Hebrews we see that we are partakers of a heavenly calling, which leads to an interesting idea, perhaps, our talents are an invitation to faithfully build what God desires with a mission of serving others. In fact, we are going to unpack these concepts to help build your confidence in whatever He calls you to pursue.
