FREEDOM

Freedom is something we all think we are entitled to: freedom of speech, freedom of the press, freedom of religion, freedom to gather. But what does freedom really mean if we are still slaves to sin? In Romans 5:15-19 we read that we are slaves of the one whom we obey… so, who do we obey? Sin or Righteousness? “The wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life…” (Romans 6:23). We all KNOW this, but it is much tougher to LIVE it. Are we just Christians in order to guarantee our eternal life or to experience daily peace?

Our media, social, broadcast, and print, have a much different description of freedom than what Paul is referencing in today’s passage. Notoriety, fame, fortune, these are all things the media leads us to believe we are entitled to, but what do those things bring us, but more trouble? They require more effort to “keep up with the Jones,” more effort to maintain status, or to keep a network of friends.

True peace can only be found in becoming a slave to righteousness. This sounds totally counter-intuitive to what we are told each and every day! Through our faithful submission to God’s will, and not to our own, we can, and will. find true peace, not just an assurance of eternal life with our Savior, but a daily peaceful walk with HIM, as we live in HIS will and not in our own.

Don’t fall for the lie that YOU are the most important person in your life! That will only lead to continuous failure to “live up to expectations” that are either set by you or by others. Jesus Christ came to this earth, lived amongst sinners like you and me, and conquered sin and death for us. Accept this free offer of salvation and peace by following the way of Christ and becoming a SLAVE to HIS will for our lives. True Peace and Joy can only be found in HIM!
