7 Lies Threatening Your Servant Leadership

DAY 7 OF 7

The Lie of Inaction

Jesus's servant leadership was revealed while washing the disciples' feet. He was being the example of God’s command to love and serve others through action. The life of inaction is tempting, however, even easy. You will want to avoid making that difficult leadership decision out of fear of failure or criticism from those you serve.

Whether difficult or uncomfortable, you must work to use your time and energy wisely—to build genuine bonds with those you lead. Jesus said, "I know my sheep and my sheep know me" (John 10:14).

As one who leads, be sure you treat the person on your team as the image of God he or she is. Jesus’s example of washing the disciple’s feet was the perfect picture of action. He could’ve been doing any number of things—why not go pray alone or walk on water again? But these verses show us it’s better to serve than to be served.

Over the last seven days, we’ve covered a lot of servant leadership ground. Be ready, the world is constantly selling you these lies. Instead of failing, seek the truth of real leadership. Keep learning but in all your learning, seek the wisdom of God found in His Word. Your purpose as a leader lies in serving God and others. These lies threaten your leadership constantly. You must stay on guard to not let the lies win.

God, help me resist the temptation of these seven lies, and instead, seek the wisdom and discernment to live like Christ. Help me live out the fruit of the Spirit in my life and leadership, revealing to my family, friends, church, and those I work with, the type of servant leadership that Jesus requires.
