7 Lies Threatening Your Servant Leadership

DAY 6 OF 7

The Lie of Knowledge

Most of what the world describes as wise has nothing to do with wisdom—it’s knowledge. Maybe you attended a top-tier college and memorized a bunch of facts for an exam. That is not wisdom.

Wisdom takes much more than knowledge, more than information or fact regurgitation. Wisdom comes from God—from experience—and is marked by humility, peace, and a willingness to do what God wants from His Word. Most of us are good at getting these things confused.

Collecting information, skills, education—all knowledge. Wisdom is a gift from God. It’s knowledge, understanding, and discernment that rolls up to godly thoughts, words, and actions. Wisdom comes from years of being obedient to God’s Word. It takes discipline from Him, prayer, and begging God to help you trust Him.

For the leader, knowledge ends up focused on you. Wisdom focuses on God and others. When you help your team better use their talents and gifts, you are not helping yourself, you’re serving others. Sure, both knowledge and wisdom are valuable. It’s a great achievement to finish that degree. But understand that with most decisions, you can serve two different masters. One often serves you. The other will only be present when you are serving God. In one you find purpose and meaning. In the other, anyone can get it.

God, will You give me wisdom and discernment? Help me grow in humility, peace, and wisdom that comes only from You.
