Beyond Belief

DAY 4 OF 28

When the very first Avengers all got together, it was a pretty interesting bunch. Some of the guys in it made sense. The Hulk is super strong, so you definitely want him on your side. Thor can shoot lightning. Iron Man has a suit of armor that lets him fly and shoot lasers. They should definitely be Avengers. But, uh, what's the bow and arrow guy doing there? Was there really not anybody else who might be a little more useful when it comes to saving the world?

When you look at the people God used throughout history, a lot of them really do seem like the bow and arrow guy. Before David fought Goliath, he was just a little kid who looked after his dad's sheep. Before Mary had Jesus, she was just a teenage girl living in the middle of nowhere. Jesus' disciples were mostly fishermen — not exactly the fanciest job someone could ever have. If God really wanted to change the world, why use so many "nobodies?"

The answer is pretty simple: God likes using normal people. That's why there are so many of them out there. And with God's help, these people don't stay normal. Instead, God gives wisdom to anybody who asks, so that they can have everything they need to do the things they were created to do.

So if you feel like your doubts are getting in the way of God using you, think again. It actually puts you in the perfect position to be used by God.

About this Plan

Beyond Belief

The Bible is full of statements and stories that seem "beyond belief." Some sound too miraculous — like, did God really split a whole sea in half? Other things sound too good to be true — like, is God really as loving, patient, or powerful as Scripture says? If you've ever wondered if what the Bible says is really worth believing, this devotional is for you.
