Going Places

DAY 12 OF 28

If you get a bad meal at a restaurant, you're probably not going to go back. If you watch a movie with bad reviews, you probably won't watch it again. If you try a new video game and it's boring, you'll likely stop playing. For most of the stuff we use in life, it's pretty easy to know whether or not we'll try it again. If it works, we'll use it again. If it doesn't, we'll move on.

But friendships aren't as simple. If you have a friend who lets you down or hurts your feelings, you might not be able to move on. What are you supposed to do?

A lot of times, this is where friendships break apart. You might want to get back at your friend for hurting you, or talk about them behind their back.

In his letter to the Romans, Paul shares other ideas. While there might be a time and a place to end a friendship that has gotten unhealthy, there is also a time and a place to talk to our friends when they've hurt us. Paul says we're not supposed to overcome evil by matching unhealthy energy, but we're supposed to overcome evil by being good. In times of conflict with friends, this means that we need to take steps to be kind, honest, and vulnerable with friends who've hurt us.
