Going Places

DAY 11 OF 28

So, you've decided it's time to challenge a friend. They've made some questionable choices, they're headed in the wrong direction, and you're going to do your best to talk with them and get them back on the right path. Good for you! There's just one problem: How should you do it?

Deciding it's time to challenge a friend is one thing. Actually doing it is another. It can be really hard. Your friend might get defensive, angry, or hurt. You might feel like you're jeopardizing the friendship. What are you supposed to do?

The Bible has a piece of good advice about challenging your friends: Don't do it alone. First and foremost, it's a good idea to pray about it. God will give you the wisdom you need to be kind and honest. All you have to do is ask.

Jesus told his followers to start by talking to your friends one-on-one. Instead of gossiping to someone else about the decisions your friend is making, go talk to your friend directly.

After all, you don't want your friend to feel threatened, betrayed, or like they're the center of gossip. If you talk to your friend one-on-one, you can really explain how valuable this friendship is and why you're so concerned.

Hopefully, your friend will understand why you're bringing things to light. By following the guidance of Jesus, your friend will probably see that you aren't trying to embarrass them. You are trying to care for them, and someday, they might even thank you for it.

Going Places

Friends are the people we’ve spent countless hours with telling stories, laughing, and creating memories together. Great friendships are more than just having people to hang out with, but how do you find friends like that? How do you build the kinds of friendships that last? And what do you do if you feel like your friendships aren't everything you'd want them to be?
