The Missing Pieceಮಾದರಿ
When it comes to healthy living, temptations can be especially challenging. We have learned that overcoming temptation requires a combination of spiritual and practical strategies. It takes discipline and commitment to beat temptation, but the rewards are well worth the effort!
Prayer is a great tool to tackle temptation. As mentioned, God does not intend for you to do life on your own and this is especially true when it comes to fighting temptations. God will war on your behalf and wants you to stay close to him. Prayer is a great way to do that. Pray to God and ask Him to provide strength, guidance, and wisdom to make the right choices. We need to stay alert, especially to Satan’s schemes, and draw on God’s power to win the battle. The Bible says in Matthew 26:14, “Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation. The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak.”
Memorizing scripture is another approach to conquering temptation. Search the Bible and equip yourself by learning verses that include the encouraging promises of God. If it helps, write them in a journal or on note cards. Keep them close at hand and turn to them when you feel temptation coming.
Another effective strategy is to surround yourself with positive influences including Godly friends who will encourage you and hold you accountable. You need to be honest with them and let them speak truth into your life. You can also find encouragement through worship music which will lift you up and help you feel the presence of God or positive media, including Christian podcasts, that will help you gain knowledge and a Biblical perspective. None of these things, however, are more important than spending time alone with God and in His Word.
When it comes to nutrition, two final tools to help avoid unhealthy temptations are education and planning. I encourage you to put together a healthy menu plan each week and make sure to include lots of whole foods and vegetables. We have hundreds of delicious free recipes on our website. Make sure to check them out.
Take a few minutes and make a list of recurring temptations that pull you off your health and fitness course. For each temptation, write down at least one strategy you can apply to overcome it and practice it!
