Biblical Justice

DAY 4 OF 5

Serving somewhere for a few hours or giving some money are great things to do and can make a real difference. But, if you want to have the greatest impact possible, get to know someone. Build a relationship with them. The author of Hebrews reminds us never to stop showing hospitality to strangers. The word hospitality comes from the Greek word philoxenia, which means “love of the stranger.” This might mean you invite someone over for dinner or grab coffee with them. It could be just asking them to hang out sometime or inviting them over to your house.

There are many ways to show hospitality. What’s crazy about showing others hospitality, is that it can turn strangers into friends. As you get to know people, hang out, share meals, and build relationships with them, they’ll begin to open up and share things with you they wouldn’t have before. You may be able to meet needs that you didn’t know existed at first. You can care for them in new ways. You’ll also earn the trust and ability to share things with them you couldn’t earlier on. You earn their trust. You may even get the ability to share Jesus with them. Relationships and hospitality are at the core of God’s justice. Let’s not ignore this!

Next Step: What does hospitality look like for you today? Find a way to build a relationship with someone you might not know very well today- invite someone over to your house, cook a meal for someone, or just take time to listen to someone and get to know them.
