Riding Solo: Life to the Full Minus Your Plus-Oneಮಾದರಿ
Hopeless Hope
I think we would all say yes if asked,
“Do you love God’s ways?”
But when asked
“Do you love them more than your own?”
That one requires a little bit more thought.
Sometimes relationships and marriage can be boxed up as a reward for good behaviour and being at church every Sunday. But this letter written by Paul to Jewish believers urges them to be patient and persevere in their faith in Jesus Christ when they’re being ostracised and sometimes, their lives are being threatened.
Sometimes riding solo can feel hard… really hard. But being in a relationship can’t be where we put our hope.
What are the Jews hoping for? Salvation. Why must they persevere? So that they will receive eternal life.
Though our lives might not be at risk following Jesus, our spiritual lives are constantly being threatened, especially in a world that loves to promote duos.
Comments like this are hard to hear:
- Isn’t the pool of people small where you are? Why don’t you just date around?
- Maybe your convictions are too strict; relax a bit more, and maybe you’ll meet someone.
- How old are you now? Time to get a move on.
Being in a relationship isn’t where our hope can be realised. God's justice can only be found in His salvation.
Each day we have to choose where we place our hope. What are you putting your hope in today?
