The Power of Father Love

DAY 4 OF 7

The Power of Peacefulness and Self Control

William runs a tight ship, as they say. Since he is ways striving for perfection, it does not take much to upset him. Make the slightest mistake and he is all over you. Too many slip-ups and you might find yourself unemployed. Williams’ employees have low morale. Consequently, his business has high employee turnover, low productivity, and a thin bottom line.

This makes William angrier, and he brings his rage home to his family. His children walk on eggshells, ever so careful not to upset their father. It does not take a lot to set him off. It is frightening when their dad blows up. In their terror, they wonder why their father does not love them very much.

Why don’t they feel loved? Because genuine love does not behave that way. Fully developed agape love is not easily angered. When there is a need for correction, the father practicing authentic love does not keep a tally of the faults of his children (1 Cor. 13:5). Keeping a record of mistakes and wrongdoings can lead to fits of rage over seemingly minor offenses. That is not the way of father love.

Holy Spirit-produced love in the heart of a man enables him to maintain a good-natured and self-controlled manner in every sphere of his life. At home, at work, and wherever he goes. This is attractive to his wife and children and endears them to him. It is difficult to love someone of whom you are afraid, because there is no fear in love. An amiable and under-control personality is also good for business.

A harsh, bad-tempered, and aloof father can lead to angry children. Their ill feelings toward him may be undetectable while the kids are small. However, as they grow up harboring resentment for their dad’s mean treatment, it may lead to abiding anger toward him. The Bible assures that a man reaps what he sows. Nurture loving peacefulness with your children and you will harvest their love. Sow anger… reap their rage.

Spend time in prayerful introspection regarding your conduct. Are you peaceable and self-controlled? What would your children say if you asked them?
