Through the Bible: 1 Corinthiansಮಾದರಿ
Paul’s Spoiler
The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law. But thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. Therefore, my dear brothers and sisters, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labour in the Lord is not in vain.
1 Corinthians 15:56-58, (NIV)
Marvel Avengers: Endgame’ was released in 2019. Fans packed out cinemas. As they left, they were given a stern warning: no spoilers! A ‘spoiler’ is when someone reveals a crucial plot development that ruins the experience for first-time viewers.
Paul puts a spoiler in 1 Corinthians 15 concerning the end of time. In verses 51-52, he tells us that because of Jesus’ victory over death, we will all be changed instantly, and the dead shall be raised, never to die again.
Yet, unlike movie spoilers that irritate, Paul’s spoiler motivates. He says: therefore, stand firm, and always give yourselves fully to the Lord’s work. Though the world seeks to overwhelm us with fears and desires that lead to sin and death, the Spirit gives us the strength to stand firm. More importantly, the Spirit opens our eyes to see that the Lord’s work will ultimately remain. May God strengthen our hearts and hands as we give our lives to our Lord Jesus and no other.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, thank You for choosing us to do Your will. It is not in vain – it is our privilege! Help us to keep going, day by day. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
About this Plan
The Corinthian church was the best example for us…not to follow! It was plagued by division, incest, immorality, lawsuits, worship disorder, misuse of spiritual gifts, abuse of the Eucharist, etc. This group of so-called Christians was probably nothing more than a cult to outsiders. Apostle Paul wrote this letter, with madness and heartache, to address the problems, and it has become important instruction for us to discipline the church community.
