Day 7: Forgiveness
As we navigate through our faith, there will always be room for growth. We will never be perfect in this imperfect world, and these imperfect bodies. As long as we take every opportunity to bring ourselves and others closer to Christ, and emulate His example of love, we are doing what God has called us to do. Forgiveness is essential and brings us closer to God. Love binds us all together and is the basis of our faith.
In our walk, remember that from time to time we must sift evil from our lives. When the world tells us “It’s the right thing to do,” or “It’s normal/okay,” don’t forget that our world is flawed because of sin. Christ's view wins out over the world's view. Unfortunately, our family members can fall prey to evil, just as easily as we can. We must forgive them, as Christ has forgiven us.
Reflection
As we conclude this devotional, let’s agree, that family is essential, and staying together (while keeping the peace) is desired. However, we must remember that doing the right thing in God’s eyes, at times, means needing to remove certain people from our lives. God calls us to forgive. If necessary, forgive from afar, where you can be safe from the hurt and dysfunction that sin brings into our lives. We are called to hate the evil actions of others but to love the person.
Love shouldn't hurt when we love in the way Jesus has shown us to love. You deserve true love the way that God defines it. There are many important steps in dealing with ungodly family members. Identify these issues, handle them with love, communicate hurt, and forgive. At times, distance can be the best way to protect yourself from further harm. If you must walk away, know that you have given your best, pleasing God throughout the process.
I pray God gives you the discernment to make the appropriate choices for your most abundant life. I pray that you will be able to help your family members who have fallen astray, but remember you must protect yourself as well. Forgiveness helps you to heal emotional wounds and continue to grow in Christ. You are worth it, special to God, and He loves you more than any person on this earth ever will. To God be the glory and He deserves our praise and worship, over all creation!
Thankfully, our God is a God of miracles! May God Bless you in your journey with your family.
