We Were Sexual Before We Were Sinfulಮಾದರಿ
Sex in the Biblical Timeline
Now that we have a proper understanding of the Gospel narrative, the next question to ask is, “Where is sex placed into this story?” We’ll give you a hint; it’s not after Genesis 3 (The Fall). It’s in Creation. God tells humanity in the account of Creation to “Be fruitful and multiply.” God also explains in Genesis 2:18-25 and Mark 10:1-8 that a man and his wife shall become one flesh in marriage. Notice the omission of something. Sin is omitted from these texts of marital intimacy. When we neglect that our sexuality was intended since creation, we fail to communicate the “very good” theology of God’s design.
Going back to the Four-Part Story, if we view sex exclusively through the lens of the Fall, it can distort our view of God’s creation. Yes, sin has distorted sex on a cultural and personal level, but God intended it to have a more robust, thriving purpose. Building a proper biblical sexual ethic reveals the truth that you were sexual before you were sinful, and there is hope for true biblical sexuality.
About this Plan
You have been written into a wonderful story. God’s story is one that includes Creation, Fall, Redemption, and Restoration. However, our conversations surrounding sex often focus on the fall - in reality, we were sexual before we were sinful! In this plan, we'll look at what scripture says about God's creation and design for sex.
