DAY 35 OF 35

The Pit of Death

As the phrase goes, the only things certain in life are death and taxes.

In our reality, entropy reigns: everything comes to an end. The pit of death will one day come for everyone and everything we know and love: family, friends, places, pets, and even our planet (I know this is probably not the encouraging message you signed up for). If it hasn’t touched some area of your life yet, it will. And it certainly doesn’t feel good when it does.

However, Mary thought Jesus was different. Maybe He actually was who He said He was? Maybe He was God in Man come to defeat the grave once and for all?

Staring up at him on the cross, she must have felt foolish for holding the thought. Here was the man who had delivered her from seven demons. He was her Savior in more ways than one. But now, He breathed his last and she held her breath, feeling the terribly familiar sense of grief set in. Over the coming day, she must have dealt with tremendous doubts, fear, pain, regret, and mourning.

Yet, on Sunday, where do we find her? She’s up early in the morning, walking towards the tomb. Maybe just maybe He was being serious about Sunday. Her hope led her to an empty grave and she was the first of the disciples to meet the risen Jesus face to face.

We will face death in our time on earth, but when we do, we can have hope that Jesus was being serious about heaven. Though that may not relieve all the pain, it does give us the peace to look up and hope that God is in control.

Thank you for coming on the journey! I pray you are leaving stronger and closer to Jesus than you came.
Much love,
Levi

About this Plan

Look Up: 35 Days to Finding Hope in Dark Places

Embark on a journey in search of something vital: hope. Not the trinkety, cutesy kind of hope that gets peddled on social media and stitched on doilies. Rather, hope that holds fast when hell sends its worst and then some. In this study, we will learn from five Biblical legends that demonstrate what it means to have hope in the pit.
