DAY 28 OF 35

The Pit of Confusion

Not all days following God are created equal. Some days we’re walking in purpose, witnessing God’s power and grace working all around us. But other days leave us staring at the ceiling wondering, “How did I get here?”

What happens when God’s plan takes a left turn? Maybe you are forced to move out of your house, you take a significant pay cut, or you face an unexpected health scare.

In chapter after chapter of Acts, we see miracles, salvation, and ministry. But unexpectedly, Paul and Silas so zealously follow God’s plan that it leads them straight to prison (talk about a left turn!).

At that moment, handcuffed and roughed up, it must have felt like the end, or at the very least, a delay. If their hands and feet weren’t chained down, they probably would have been pacing their cell and scratching their heads wondering what went wrong.

Instead, when Paul and Silas couldn’t move their hands or feet, they chose to lift their voices in praise. They worshipped God... and He heard them. The doors swung open, the jailer got saved, and they escaped to continue their work.

When we come to a left turn in God’s plan, our weapon is worship. We praise God for his faithfulness, love, and grace, knowing that He’ll get us out of whatever He got us into. When we look up and worship in the midst of our confusion, God leans in and whispers, “Don’t worry, it’s all part of the plan.”

Rather, hope that holds fast when hell sends its worst and then some. In this study, we will learn from five Biblical legends that demonstrate what it means to have hope in the pit.
