Did you stop to read the instructions first? You know, when you got that new and shiny present you were so excited about? See if this sounds familiar. You've put that "I've gotta have this item" on your list, and someone purchases it for you. Once you rip the package open and start using it right away, unfortunately, it doesn't work exactly how it's supposed to, and you get a little frustrated. Upset, you toss it aside and promise to figure it out later. Ring a bell? It's an all-too-familiar problem. We didn't read the instructions first.
For many of us, the Christian life is a lot like that present. We commit our life to Christ, can't wait to change the world, and can't understand why things aren't working out the way we thought they would. We grow frustrated and impatient, determined to "fix it" later. The problem? We didn't read the instructions first. Jesus teaches us the Christian life can be broken down into two main instructions: love God with everything we have and love other people as much as we love ourselves.
How do you know you love yourself? How can you show that love to others?

About this Plan
Jesus had a lot to say about love, but not everyone loved him. Instead, Jesus’ opponents hated him, attacked him, and saw him as extreme — a radical. And they had a point! The things Jesus taught about loving God and others challenged the status quo. In this 4-week devotional series from Grow Curriculum, we'll look at four ways Jesus invites us to love others according to his revolutionary example.
