Dare to Dream

DAY 2 OF 7

What Is A Divine Dream?

Once we recognize that God wants us to dream, we need to define from a biblical perspective what a divine dream is and, more specifically, what a divine dream is not.

A divine dream is a glimpse of what God has in your future. A divine dream will never contradict the written Word of God. Not for any reason should you ever allow anyone, anything, or any dream to cause you to violate the Word of God. Divine dreams do not contradict His Word—they prove His Word.

You will be the main character in a divine dream. Others may be in the dream, but they are not the focus of it. This is important to note because sometimes, as we share our dream with others, we get discouraged when they don’t feel the same way about the dream as we do. That’s because the dream doesn’t belong to them. They weren’t the ones entrusted with it. The dream is yours to pray about, struggle with, endure and, in time, enjoy.

A second way to identify a divine dream is that there will be a cost to your dream. Consider Jacob and Joseph from the Bible. They both had dreams. Jacob’s dream was God’s way of revealing the nature of the relationship that God wanted to have with him. Joseph’s dream was that his brothers, who already greatly dislike him, were all going to bow before him, and he was going to be exalted above them. But just because Jacob and Joseph had these dreams didn’t mean God handed them a free ride down easy street. They both faced a series of very real challenges which they willingly chose to overcome with resolve and faith in God to see the dream come true.

What were their challenges? All of Jacob’s life he attempted to gain the favor of his earthly father Isaac, but his father favored his twin, Esau. So, Jacob tried to take matters into his own hands by buying Esau’s birthright for a bowl of beans and later deceiving Isaac into giving him Esau’s blessing. Jacob’s trickery caused such a family feud that he had to run for his life. It was there that God gave him a divine dream.

Joseph had to endure a series of tremendous tests before he could see the plan of God fulfilled in His life. Mocked and despised by his older brothers, he was sold into slavery and taken nearly 400km away to Egypt. Once in Egypt, he was convicted of a crime he didn’t commit and was thrown in jail for 10 years before his divine dream came to fruition

Are you starting to see the costs associated with receiving a God-given divine dream? There are no shortcuts. But the result will be greater than you can ever imagine if you are willing to endure the struggles until the dream comes to pass.

Today's Blessing:

May the Lord bless you and keep you. May the Lord make His face to shine upon you and be gracious unto you and give you His peace. As you pursue your divine dream, extend grace and forgiveness to those who try to discourage you. God gave this dream to you for your good and His glory. He is with you every step of the way. Amen and amen!
