Rad Dad!

DAY 1 OF 6

How has becoming a father changed your perspective on a Father’s love for his children?

My son Davey is a year old and my love for him grows more and more every day! There is nothing that can take my love for Davey away. It doesn’t matter if I am near to him or far from him, I love him all the same. It doesn’t matter if he is really happy or really sad, I love him. He is my son.

I also love him so much that I want him to experience the best parts of life! I really want the best for Davey, even though he doesn’t always agree with me. There are times where Davey thinks I am holding him back from the best parts of life.

Davey is very curious and loves to explore. He often wants to explore the road in front of our house. So I chase him down and lead him away from the road. Then he will get upset that I stopped him from the one thing that he wanted most at that time. He is a baby and doesn’t understand that the road is dangerous. I am wiser than Davey and know that the thing he, at times wants most, is actually not the best for him. It could actually lead to his death.

I feel this is an exact parallel to our relationship with God. There are times when we really want something, because it seems like it will fulfill us and make us feel good. But some of those things will actually hurt us. God encourages us to avoid those things, and calls them sin. Sometimes we may even wonder why God would keep us from them or think He is stopping us from experiencing all life has to offer. But God is wiser than we are and is able to see the bigger picture. God knows that all sin leads to death even if it doesn’t look that bad at the moment. I know that every time Davey goes into a street he probably won’t get hit by a car, but I also know that if he does it enough one day he will. Just like every time we sin. It may not kill us but when it has its full effect it leads to death.
