How to Stop Self-Sabotaging Your Succesಮಾದರಿ
Self-sabotage is when we say that we want something and then make sure that it does not happen. This sounds counter-productive and silly, yet most people fall into this trap.
What exactly are examples of self-sabotage, you might ask?
• Procrastination
• Being intensely afraid of criticism
• Dwelling on your mistakes
• A need for control
• Waiting for the perfect time to start
• Getting off track as soon as you see progress
Why is it that we put off our grand plans, not putting in the time to complete the goals we set for ourselves? When you get the idea for the new book or plan to finally get into the best shape of your life, it seems like you are unstoppable. Endorphins flood your mind, and you can almost smell the success as your heart pounds with excitement.
Yet, a few days in, you have all kinds of excuses to not put in the necessary work. You feel stuck regarding creativity, your muscles are sore from overdoing it with exercise, or you cannot stop thinking about sugary treats. You hear the news about the economy, and friends tell you that small businesses hardly make it past the first year. An overwhelming sense of fear sets in.
Giving up is all you think about, and then the tug-o-war starts in your heart since you know that you are disappointing yourself yet again. This is the typical cycle of self-sabotage.
Reflect in Prayer
Lord, I recognize once and for all time. You have created me with purpose and destiny, Lord, and I am willing to let go of all insecurity and the root of fear that has kept me bound in mediocrity. I am asking you, Holy Spirit, to reveal the exact reasons I have been putting off on completing the goals and mission I have committed to so many times before. Renew me, I pray. Amen
