Swords Up: How to Use the Weapon of God’s Word

DAY 1 OF 7

Can you imagine being out somewhere and someone attacks you? Now, imagine being in this situation with a weapon to defend yourself, but you have no idea how to use it. Honestly, I think that is the case for some of us when it comes to God’s Word. We’re armed with access to the Bible but have no idea how to defend ourselves from the attacks we face in our thoughts, relationships, families, and life.

God’s Word is clear. We are in a battle against “the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.” (Ephesians 6:12)  We all have to get and KEEP a firm grasp on “the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.” (Ephesians 6:17)

Over the next 7 days, we’ll focus on five principles that I believe are key to holding our swords with a better grip. Each devotional will also provide action steps to help you practically apply the principles. Get ready to grow. Swords Up!

Action Steps:

  1. Set a Time - Be sure you schedule the time of day that you’ll prioritize God’s Word. Make a daily appointment with God — whether it’s first thing in the morning, at lunch, or in the evening — and faithfully keep it.
  2. Accountability - Two are better than one. Invite a friend to join you along this journey. It helps you stay committed and might make it more fun.
  3. Invite Holy Spirit - Holy Spirit is our helper and advocate. Invite Him into your heart and this journey. Ask Him to reveal His truth and help you apply it to your life.
