12 Days of Healthy Christmas

DAY 9 OF 12

“The Birth of Hope”

God’s one and only was born in a stable. The Lamb of God rested in a manger.

Could there be a more humble beginning for a king? After traveling around 75 miles with a pregnant wife who was due any day, Joseph and Mary arrive in Bethlehem and cannot find any lodging. Why? Most likely because of the number of people reporting for the census.

Now if I am Mary or Joseph, I probably would have thought that after being visited by angels and told about the eternal, dimension-altering child that was to be born, that I would at least find a peaceful, clean room for the birth. Wouldn’t you? It was not to be so.

While born in a stable, Jesus was neither neglected nor unloved, but He was laid in a manger after being wrapped up in cloths. The environment was less than ideal, probably unclean, and certainly unsterile, but God protected.

This event from that first Christmas morning changed my life.

Your life was changed also.

My life and yours has meaning, importance, and value. His birth, life, death, and resurrection demonstrate the great value placed upon you and I by our Heavenly Father. The life we have been given is blessed.

Our lives were bought with a great price, and yet, at least for me, I physically squandered many years of my life away. I was living up to less than my potential simply because I failed to embrace proper care of my physical body. Our physical, emotional, and spiritual health are all linked. Living fit is part of walking obediently before God.

Jesus came that we might have life. Let this Christmas season be a season for healthy celebration. Let your Christmas be a celebration of life. Celebrate it actively and embrace life. Jesus came that we might live and the best living is active, balanced, and healthy.

Health Tip: Christmas celebration isn’t equal to decadent food. Christmas celebration can be full of great activities & friendships.
