DAY 2 OF 8

Who is Jesus of Nazareth?

Jesus is God’s eternal Son and Israel’s Messiah, the promised Savior. Through Jesus, we know who God is.

Christianity isn’t a religion about a god who is  far away, someone who lives beyond the clouds. It’s not a philosophy. And even though we have an inspired book called the Bible, Christianity is not primarily a system of ethics.

Christianity is about how the deepest secrets of the universe—and most importantly the character of God—are revealed in a real person: Jesus of Nazareth. This may not feel like a shocking idea to you now, but it was when Jesus walked the earth. Whatever God was supposed to be like, he was surely not supposed to become human. But that’s what the Christian faith claims. The God of the universe is revealed in Jesus of Nazareth.

If you want to know who God is, you have to look long and hard at Jesus. Jesus will show you what God is like.

Okay, great. But how can you get to know Jesus?

That’s where the Holy Spirit, and the Bible, come in. As you read Jesus’ words and see how he interacted with those he encountered, the Holy Spirit will teach you about Jesus. And as the Holy Spirit brings you into relationship with Jesus, you will begin to discover the character of the true God.

That’s the promise of the Christian faith.

Spend some time today asking God to reveal himself to you through his Son, Jesus.
