Raising a Child of God
We know that when Jesus comes back, it will not be in the humble form of a baby. He will appear in all His glory! As Christians, awaiting Jesus’ second coming is fundamental to our beliefs. Just as we wait ever so patiently for that day, Mary, Joseph and all of God’s people were waiting for Isaiah’s prophecy of the Son of God’s birth to be fulfilled.
Being raised in the Jewish faith and learning from the teachings of the Old Testament, Mary would have known about the great-great-great-grandmothers of Joseph that we have already studied: Tamar, Rahab, Ruth and Bathsheba. She also would have known about Isaiah’s prophecy of the first coming of Christ. Envision Mary piecing these facts together as she found out she was betrothed to the great-great-great (and on and on) grandson of David. She, too, was about to join the list of women in the Messiah’s family tree! Can you imagine the truth dawning on Mary? Am I THE virgin?
Mary gave birth and held Jesus in her arms—the Son of God. She fed Him, burped Him, changed His diapers, taught Him about His Father, caught Him when He stumbled during His first steps, read to Him and bathed Him ever so gently. From heaven to the womb and into Mary’s arms, God humbly placed Himself under the care of a mother. Mary treasured those moments and watched her Son grow up to fill the role God had designed for Him.
Mama, God has wonderfully designed you to raise these children of His. At some point, your own children will grow up and fill the role that God designed specifically for them, too. Treasure these moments, sweet mother, and watch your children grow, stumble, persevere and thrive. Pour into their precious hearts the love of Christ and trust God to permit His truths to take root.
About this Plan
In Her Children Arise, explore the Bible through the lens of a mother as we delve into the stories of moms in scripture such as Jochebed, Hagar, Rahab, Bathsheba and more! Whether we are in the desert or on the bank of the Nile, a queen or foreigner in a new land, God meets us mothers exactly where we are and equips us to raise His most precious gifts.
