Praying God's Promisesಮಾದರಿ
The Lord Is My Shepherd
In Moments That Matter, Catherine Marshall writes, “When we ask God to guide us, we have to accept by faith that He is doing so. This means that when He closes a door in our faces, we do well not to try to crash that door. Sensitivity is needed here. The promise is the Shepherd will go ahead of the sheep; His method is to clear the way for us.”
Another name for God is Jehovah Rohi, which means “the Lord is my shepherd.” We can see this description of God in the first verse of Psalm 23, written by King David, a former shepherd himself: “The Lord is my shepherd. I am never in need” (GW).
The job of a shepherd hasn’t changed much since David’s day. The shepherd protects his flock from predators. He leads his flock to grassy pastures and cool waters. He helps his sheep stay calm and leads them to rest in the cool shade.
God directs us in the same way. Psalm 23 continues, “He makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside peaceful waters. He renews my soul. He guides me along the paths of righteousness for the sake of his name” (Psalm 23:2–3 GW).
Let’s allow God to lead us as our Shepherd.
Your Word says: “For the Lord gives wisdom. Much learning and understanding come from His mouth. He stores up perfect wisdom for those who are right with Him. He is a safe-covering to those who are right in their walk. He watches over the right way, and He keeps safe the way of those who belong to Him. Then you will understand what is right and good, and right from wrong, and you will know what you should do. For wisdom will come into your heart. And much learning will be pleasing to your soul. Good thinking will keep you safe. Understanding will watch over you” (Proverbs 2:6–11 NLV).
I agree: You give me wisdom, learning, and understanding because I am right with you. You watch over me, leading me in the right way. I will know what to do because your wisdom fills my heart so that I understand what is right and good as well as right from wrong. I will have good reasoning that will keep me safe. I will have understanding that will give me the insights I need.
