The Ten Commandments - Moses Acts

For this account, we are looking at the second time God gave Moses the Commandments. The first time Moses received instructions from God, the tablets got shattered because the people disobeyed and were worshipping idols when Moses came down off the mountain.

Just imagine, while Moses is literally hearing from God up on Mt. Sinai and getting instructions for God’s people, those same people are restless and impatient. Moses gets consumed with righteous indignation and breaks the tablets! He actually had to atone for those sins so that God would start over and give him the tablets again. How embarrassing in a way. But it also shows that God does give more than one chance for us to do right.

Moses Acts

The Israelites had no idea what a man of God they had leading them. There was no acknowledgement and appreciation, they complained about everything. Even so, Moses pushed through this and brought righteousness to them by asking God to forgive them and atone for their sins. His relationship with God the Father was so strong that God spoke with Moses after coming to him in a pillar of cloud. The anointing and obedience that existed in their relationship was fierce! Moses was fierce in his determination to implement God’s way and implant that into the heart of the people.

So, before going up the Mount a second time, he cleanses the camp of all ungodliness – asking the people “Are you with me or not?” Who believes that Jehovah is true? Those are the real believers.

Also, Moses does not assume that he continuously has God’s favor. He repeatedly says, “If I have found favor in your sight.” This is a sign of humility and reverence. We must come to God with both of these if we expect Him to move in our lives. We must be humble, give God all the glory, and remain reverent. We see Moses displaying these qualities.

As a result, the next meeting between Moses and God is so incredibly intense that it changes Moses. His face literally shines afterward with God’s glory. We are talking about tablets that have been carved out with the actual finger of God!! If that is not incredible, miraculous power, I am not sure what is! He ends up leading Israel to become more of a nation as they come under the Ten Commandments. This is the result of a righteous and uncompromising leader – one who displays absolute fierceness in action.

“When Moses came down from Mount Sinai with the two tablets of the covenant law in his hands, he was not aware that his face was radiant because he had spoken with the LORD. 30 When Aaron and all the Israelites saw Moses, his face was radiant, and they were afraid to come near him.” (Exodus 34: 29-30)

Reflection

Let’s not be believers that “deny the power thereof.” Many times, we go through the motions and forget that God is a real being, an entity with absolute infinite power! He wants and desires for His power to be KNOWN on the earth. Any of us can tap into that power if we dare. If we have the audacity to be like Moses. Humble. Willing. Obedient. Receptive. Reverent. The problem is most men think they don’t qualify. Neither did Moses. None of us “qualify.” God qualifies for us and through us! We are vessels. And, like Moses, when we are willing, we can be used mightily by the Lord.

Moses, a Man of God's Power

Moses is credited with writing the first five books of the Bible, and manifesting some of the greatest miracles ever recorded during his lifetime. This devotional is the first in a series that explores the characteristics of powerful, biblical men that God used to not only write down His words but also to exhibit His very power on the earth. This plan was written by April Knoke.
