The Legacy Journey

DAY 17 OF 31

Work Is Good

My grandmother used to say, “There’s a great place to go when you’re broke: to work! It’s a sure-fire money-making scheme!”

We might laugh a little at Grandma’s wisdom today, but a proper understanding of work is vital to your success on The Legacy Journey. Sadly, that understanding is missing across our culture. Many folks—including some in the church—see work as a curse rather than a blessing. They think it’s something God came up with in response to Adam and Eve’s sin, so it can’t be a good thing.

But that’s not the way the story plays out in Scripture. If you look carefully, you’ll see that God actually put the human race to work before sin entered the world. In Genesis 2:15, God made Adam the first asset manager in history. The Lord had created this incredible garden, and Adam got the task of tending it.

In short, God put Adam to work—not as a punishment or curse, but because work was (and still is) a good thing!

Now, I’ll admit that there’s nothing worse than work that doesn’t matter. That’s called a J-O-B, and it saps the life out of you. I always tell my team members that if they lose their passion for their work, that’s probably God’s way of telling them to move on to the next adventure. I won’t be mad at them, but it’s not fair to them or to me if they keep hanging around just to draw a paycheck.

God created you to work. He made you to pursue your passions and make a difference in the world through what you do. He wired you to find satisfaction in work that really matters. If you’ve never thought of work that way, change your perspective. Thank God for the work He allows you to do and always do your best for His glory.

Despite what the culture says, work is good! And changing the world through your dream job fuels the heartbeat of The Legacy Journey.

Ready to start your journey toward work that matters? The Legacy Journey covers purposeful living, mastering your talents, and living a generous life.
