A MATTER OF LIFE AND DEATH

In Hebrew, to meditate literally means to “murmur, ponder, speak, or utter.” This reveals the primary weapon of meditation is in what we speak or the tongue. So to meditate on God’s Word is to simply put His words on your tongue and speak them out loud. Jesus, as the Word incarnate, said, “The words that I have spoken to you are spirit and life” (John 6:63). When you put the words of the Bible on your tongue through meditation, you are activating this perfect source of Divine life, and applying it to your own life!

Proverbs 18:21 tells us plainly that “death and life are in the power of the tongue.” Whatever is on your tongue will determine the state of your life and future. If you speak life, you will experience an abundant life! If you speak death, you will a experience a progressive deterioration of the quality of your life, ultimately ending in death itself. Therefore, meditation on God’s word is a matter of life and death, because the power of life and death is in the tongue, and meditation’s primary weapon is the tongue.

Are you ready to use this small, but mighty weapon today? Take courage that your heart, mind, and body will be infused with the very life of God as you do.

PRAYER

Lord, thank You that Your Word alone brings me life. I thank You for the gift of a tongue and the gift of meditation. Remind me and help me to use these gifts to speak life over myself and everyone around me.

APPLICATION

Ask the Lord, “What part of my life feels dead or stagnant?” Then meditate on a verse and apply it to that area, and watch it come alive.
