Connect With God Through Meditation | 7 Day Devotional

DAY 2 OF 7

YOU ARE WHAT YOU EAT

"You are what you eat" is a metaphoric phrase used as a reminder that our food directly affects our health, happiness, and overall well-being. Estimates indicate humans spend about 2.5 years of their lives eating, about 67 minutes a day and consume a total of around 35 tons of food over our lifetime. That’s a lot of ingesting something that greatly affects us!

Imagine you spent your whole life only eating things that were destructive. How would you feel? imagine being a diligent person who made sure to only eat things that benefit your body. How would you feel?

In the same way, your spirit is greatly affected by the things you consume. Your spirit consumes what is seen and heard. In Job 31, Job defends himself against his friends by saying that he is blameless and upright and that he made a covenant with his eyes to not look at a woman with lust. Job knew what he allowed himself to consume would affect his spirit.

You are always meditating on something, whether you realize it or not. What is meditating? Thinking, dwelling, pondering, considering, ingesting, tolerating, and accepting. What are you meditating on? Ask the Holy Spirit to judge your thoughts, to reveal to you what you have been meditating on the most. Receive His wisdom to replace those things in your mind with His Word. Fill yourself with so much of the Word of God there isn’t room for anything else!

PRAYER

Holy Spirit, show me the things I have been ingesting that are not pleasing to You. Thank You for your conviction when these things try to captivate my heart. Lord, give me the heart to desire Your Word and fill my mind with thoughts of You. In Jesus’ name, amen.

APPLICATION

Choose one verse today and meditate on it. Look at it multiple times, memorize, and say it out loud.

But in Jesus, there are many ways to connect with God. One way is through meditation. Meditation is when you intentionally focus on His Word, digest it, and allow it to become alive in you. Through this 7-day devotional, our goal is that you would walk away understanding the importance of meditation and how you can make meditating on God and His Word a habitual lifestyle.
