Being the Church Beyond Sunday

DAY 6 OF 7

Remembering Our Helper

Brothers, we are all part of the Great Commission and should be passionate about our unique roles in it.

Jesus proclaimed, “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you” (Matthew 28:18-20).

How can we fulfill our part if we are only faithful one day a week? Jesus said, "The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few" (Matthew 9:37). Christ calls us to reach His flock beyond just the Church of Sunday mornings.

I understand it can feel overwhelming and challenging for us as men to leave our comfort zones. However, Christ has given us a Helper—the Holy Spirit (John 14:26). We must take proactive steps to allow the Holy Spirit to reveal Christ's presence in the world through our sharing and serving.

The first step is surrendering to the Holy Spirit and accepting His guidance. The Holy Spirit empowers us to overcome our fears and weaknesses so that we can testify about what Christ has done in our lives. For example, I am an introvert who intensely fears public speaking. However, if God calls me to speak to a crowd of non-believers, the Holy Spirit will equip me to overcome that fear.

The next step is identifying and utilizing your spiritual gifts for outreach beyond Sunday mornings. There are several reliable online tests available to help you discover your gifts. Once you have identified them, you can connect with a relevant group at your church. As mentioned earlier this week, consider extending their programs to reach people outside the church.

The final step is inviting the Holy Spirit to empower your prayer life. Prayer is essential for any outreach work. Romans 8:26 states, "In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans." The Holy Spirit guides us in knowing what and whom we should pray for and helps us to be the Church beyond Sundays.

Prayer: Father, we realize that we cannot convert anyone; it is the work of Your Spirit. Help us seek Your Spirit's guidance in leading people to Christ and being the Church beyond Sunday. Amen.

Reflection: How can you invite the Holy Spirit to guide your prayers and journey beyond Sunday mornings?

Day 5Day 7

About this Plan

Being the Church Beyond Sunday

This week, we are exploring the importance of the Church and our commitment beyond just Sunday morning. God loves us every day, not just on Sundays. In reciprocation, men need to reflect His light seven days a week. Let's encourage each other in this mission! Written by Jacques Van Dyk.
