Being the Church Beyond Sunday

DAY 3 OF 7

Loving the Church as Christ Does

Brothers, to emulate an infinite Christ, we must love the Church beyond Sundays.

What does it mean to be men who love the Church genuinely? Here are some points to reflect on that can affirm our affection and dedication to the Church.

We think about the Church beyond Sunday.

Do we think about the Church outside of worship services? Do you consider the service after it has ended? Do you reflect on the worship songs you sang? Do you contemplate how to apply the message to your daily life? It's essential to take all this in and live it out daily.

We feel a deep connection to the Church.

We recently joined a new church, and I must confess that I am a bit envious of the people who embrace each other at the beginning of the service. They have formed deep connections over a long period of time. I will eventually find my place, but it takes time. Seek those connections, embrace the community, and carry the Spirit beyond Sunday.

You prioritize the Church’s needs.

At times, we treat the Church like entertainment. We show up for the “show,” put some money in the donation box, and then leave, often forgetting about it until the following week. It is important to remember that the Church consists of its people; we must actively participate in and support it. An engaged Church is open seven days a week, helping the poor, the homeless, and those who are often forgotten. We need to follow this example throughout the week.

The Church is your safe place.

The Church should be where we feel safe from judgment and pressure to meet someone else's expectations. Sadly, we know that this is not always everyone’s experience, but that is always the goal. Having brothers who can support you and hold you accountable for staying the course is also essential. If you don't have a group of brothers at your church, I encourage you to start one yourself. I have a few brothers I reach out to regularly, and they truly mean the world to me. Forming a small men's group is one of the best ways to experience Church beyond Sunday.

Prayer: Father, deepen our love for Your Church and guide us to serve beyond Sundays. Amen.

Reflection: How can you connect with a group of brothers at your church during the work week?

Day 2Day 4

About this Plan

Being the Church Beyond Sunday

This week, we are exploring the importance of the Church and our commitment beyond just Sunday morning. God loves us every day, not just on Sundays. In reciprocation, men need to reflect His light seven days a week. Let's encourage each other in this mission! Written by Jacques Van Dyk.
