R.I.P or Rest in Peace With God Daily

DAY 5 OF 5

Pray for Peace

When is the best time to pray for peace?

The caption at the beginning of Psalm 5 gives us this hint found in David’s morning prayer. Here is verse 3: "O Lord, in the morning I will direct my prayer toward you." That’s how David would start his day. Guess who else would pray early in the morning? Jesus. Mark tells us that early in the morning, before the sun came up, Jesus would pray. In Genesis we also see Jacob doing the same thing, getting up early to pray.

We obtain Rest and Peace through Prayer. Prayer sets the temperature; Complaints react to the temperature. We need to set the temperature for our day. We should be a thermostat, not a thermometer. Pray for peace for your day before you start your day. Before the distractions, before the attitudes, before the conflicts, before the noise. Make your request known to the Lord.

The Bible commissions us to pray for peace in Philippians 4. When we pray for peace, we pray for a blessing. We cannot be warring with our neighbor, our spouse, our family, or our co-workers and then ask God for His peace. The Hebrew word for peace is Shalom. Shalom is a blessing, that’s why we don’t need a wish for peace, we have a blessing for peace. We have been blessed with peace by our Prince of Peace, Jesus. Shalom my brothers and sisters, we can live in Peace!

Lord, thank you for speaking the blessing of Shalom over my life. In Jesus name, amen.
