R.I.P or Rest in Peace With God DailySample
Stop the Noise
David was on the run for his life from his enemies, yet in Psalm 4:8, he said that God gave him peace and sleep during this time. Have you ever slept but didn’t feel like you rested? Have you ever just closed your eyes for a moment and afterward felt like you had gotten some rest?
You cannot Rest without Peace, nor can you have Peace without Rest.
You can sleep when your body shuts down, but you can only rest when your mind shuts down. Our brains receive about 11 million bits of information per second. But we only have the capacity to process about 50 bits of information. That leaves our brain constantly churning, trying to process all the leftover information.
One of the main things we must do to receive the rest in peace that God has for us is learn how to stop the noise. We must arrest all those millions of things that didn’t get processed and want to run rampant through our minds. The literal translation for the Latin word Requiescat, a.k.a. Rest, is to quiet down. This is exactly what the Lord told us in Psalm 46: “Be still, be quiet, and know that I am God.” When we stop the noise, we recognize that God is in control of everything, and that is what brings us peace.
Dear Lord God, please help us to be still and block out all the noise so that we can fellowship with you and rest in peace. In Jesus name, amen.
