"For as Jonas was three days and three nights in the whale's belly; so shall the Son of man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth."

The resurrection is the great sign of our Lord’s mission. It is a testament to His divine calling and His preparation of the gospel for all people, including the Gentiles. Just as Jonah’s life symbolized his calling, so does Christ’s life symbolize His mission.

Jonah was cast overboard by the sailors, surrendering to death in the sea, and through his sacrifice, the storm was calmed. In a similar way, our Lord’s death brought peace to humanity. As Jonah spent three days in the depths of the sea, Christ was in the heart of the earth, buried in death. Jonah was miraculously delivered from the belly of the fish, while Christ rose from the dead in glory.

Jonah’s ministry was validated by his restoration from the sea, and Christ's ministry was affirmed by His resurrection. The man who returned from death at sea captured the attention of Nineveh, and in the same way, the risen Savior commands and deserves the obedient faith of all who hear His message.
