Prayers of the Bible

DAY 30 OF 32

Today’s reading is about a prayer from the book of Colossians.

How can we walk in a manner pleasing to the Lord?

When we pray for other believers in our lives that they would be transformed, our hearts align with that of God. We see here Paul thanking God, as he often does at the beginning of the letters that he writes, but we see a little bit more. He prays they would walk in a manner pleasing to the Lord and then explains what that looks like. This is helpful for us today.

Bearing fruit in every good work that they do. Here is a reminder of the good fruit that Paul is speaking about: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, gentleness, faithfulness and self-control. This is the fruit of the Spirit that Paul writes about in Galatians 5. This isn’t all that he means, but when things feel broad, it’s good to drill down to things that are sure. As we bear good fruit, we also learn and grow in our knowledge and understanding of God. This is the fruit of the Holy Spirit of God, all characteristics of who He is.

Walking in a manner that pleases God is a walk that is enduring, joyful, patient and full of thanks that we get to do this walk with God and with other believers.

Today, ponder this: What fruit of the Spirit do you need help with as you seek to walk in a manner more pleasing to the Lord?
