How Can I Defeat the Lies of the Enemy?

Did you know that though we live in a physical world, Scripture teaches us that there is another world? There is a spiritual world where a war rages between the kingdom of light and darkness. Look what Paul writes in 2 Corinthians 10:3-4: For though we live in the world, we do not wage war as the world does. The weapons that we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds.

In other words, when believers engage in spiritual battle, we don’t fight with the weapons of this world. Instead, we engage in this war with spiritual weapons—like prayer, faith, speaking the Word, and the power of the Holy Spirit. In fact, Paul shows us in Ephesians 6 that our offensive weapon in spiritual warfare is the Sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God.

When you know and learn God’s Word, you can fight like Jesus did. In Matthew 4, when Satan tempted Jesus three times in the wilderness, how did He fight back? With the spoken Word of God. Three times, Jesus said, “It is written…” He resisted the devil by quoting the Word of God. This is why we fight with the Sword of the Spirit—the spoken Word of God. The Word of God doesn’t become the Sword of the Spirit until it’s spoken out of your mouth.

As you battle by declaring God’s Word over your life, remember this: you’re not fighting for victory—you’re fighting from victory. Jesus already won the war at the cross! When you know and speak God’s Word, you’re enforcing Christ’s victory on the cross.

As you engage with God’s Word:

● What is God saying to me?

● What does it mean to me?

● How can I apply what God is teaching me?

● How can I be specific in prayer today?

After you reflect on these questions, bring everything to God in prayer.
