The Same Spirit: Living the Vibrant Holy Spirit-Filled LifeSample
Breaking Free in the Same Spirit
More and more, I encounter people who are hungry for the Spirit of God; men and women who are starving for authentic spiritual power, sick and tired of floundering within their own limitations, and suffering from attacks by dark forces. Whether they have hit rock bottom or scaled the heights of success, they come to me seeking God and wanting to experience His power.
The same Spirit who made you lives inside of you. The architect is now the tenant. What is the Holy Spirit’s permanent address? You! God’s Word confirms His residence within you. “The Spirit of God has made me; the breath of the Almighty gives me life” (Job 33:4 niv). Paul asked, “Don’t you know that you yourselves are God’s temple and that God’s Spirit dwells in your midst?” (1 Corinthians 3:16 niv).
To better understand the unique distinction of Holy Spirit freedom, we must start by considering freedom in general. According to the Merriam-Webster online dictionary, freedom is defined as “the quality or state of being free, such as: the absence of necessity, coercion, or constraint in choice or action; liberation from slavery or from the power of another.” Synonyms for freedom include independence, liberty, autonomy, and being unrestricted. The opposite of freedom is captivity, oppression, or bondage. As believers, our freedom comes from the most transformative, powerful force on the planet—the Holy Spirit of God!
You cannot have the Holy Spirit and be enslaved. Where the Spirit of the Lord is present, there is freedom! When Jesus died on the cross and rose from the grave, your freedom was secured in a way previously unknown. We are now qualified for eternal freedom because of the new covenant relationship established through the Holy Spirit. “This is a covenant not of written laws, but of the Spirit. The old written covenant ends in death; but under the new covenant, the Spirit gives life” (2 Corinthians 3:6 nlt).
We are Holy Spirit–led people, with heads full of conviction informed by the Spirit, hearts full of compassion inspired by the Spirit, and hands full of charitable acts imparted by the Spirit. Free people live differently, look differently, and love differently.
Dear God, forgive me for the times I’ve said I wanted to experience freedom from my sins, my struggles, and my addictions while still relying on my own efforts behind a veil of pride. I know that You are the only source of my freedom, Your Spirit dwelling in me and filling me with Your miraculous, healing power. I pray that You would shine through me, Lord, allowing my life to advertise Your power and Your freedom to those around me. Thank You that I am free in Christ to be the person You have created me to be. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
