Daily Prayers for Men

DAY 9 OF 10

Get Angry, But Don't Sin

Be angry and do not sin; do not let the sun go down on your anger. EPHESIANS 4:26 ESV

Anger is a valid emotion for God’s people. The pain an injustice we experience in life often makes us angry. Notice that the verse from Ephesians treats anger as a given. It says of course you’re angry. Now master your anger so that it doesn’t master you. Don’t give it a foothold in your life. Don’t nurture a grudge. That’s what happens when you let the sun go down on your anger. Anger festers, grows, and starts to invade other areas of your life. Have you ever blown up at a loved one because of your anger toward someone else? That’s what happens when you leave anger unresolved. God’s plan is for you to acknowledge your anger and take the necessary steps to deal with it. Pray about it. Ask God to help you understand the root of it. Confront the person or the issue that made you angry. Look for ways to reconcile. Let your anger serve its purpose and then let it go. You don’t have to do it alone. God will give you everything you need to restore peace in your life.

God, thank You for understanding my emotions. Thank You for giving me a way to respond to the injustice, pain, and unfairness I encounter. Help me manage my anger so that it doesn’t manage me. Give me the wisdom to recognize the best way to deal with my anger in a given situation. Give me the awareness to consider the impact of my anger on others.

Give me the self-control to release my anger after it has served its purpose. Amen.

About this Plan

Daily Prayers for Men

Some days we're too busy. Some days we simply don't have the words. But the longer we put off our prayers, the more struggle and frustration we feel due to our distance from God. This reading plan for men is designed to build the regular habit of intentional prayer, offering inspiration for carving out time to communicate with our King and experience the fullness of joy in His presence.
