Finding Faith

DAY 1 OF 3

Finding Faith In The Person

I once found myself fervently praying for a specific need. Someone suggested that I needed to pray harder with more faith. I tried, mustering all my “faith” and putting all my emotional energy into my prayer. I kept saying, “Lord, you can do it”, “You can do it” as though God needed a cheering squad. In the end, I was only emotionally drained and exhausted. I realized faith transcends mere emotions; it involves reasoning.

As Christians, we often overuse the word “faith”, turning it into a cliché. In Hebrews 11, the Greek word for ‘faith is ‘pistis’, better translated as “confidence”. Real faith is only as strong as its object, and if the object of our faith is God, then we must have confidence in Him and His character.

For example, when we have a specific need, and we know someone influential having the power to help us, we would confidently approach the person. We are confident about them when we know of their character, generosity, and kindness. Similarly, finding faith means having confidence in God and His character.

Romans 4:3 says, “Abraham believed God”. It was not what Abraham believed but who Abraham believed in. Abraham’s confidence in God and His character was what counted.

Hebrews 11:6 also mentions that without faith, it is impossible to please God, and to come to Him, we must believe that He exists and He rewards those who sincerely seek Him.

Today, do you have confidence in God? Do you trust in His goodness? Faith is not blind nor is it a mental ability. Faith is to have confidence in God and His character.

Prayer: Dear Lord, often I struggle with my faith. Open my eyes to see who you truly are and know you intimately. In Jesus' name, I pray, Amen.
