What Verse of Scripture Do I Want to See Lived Out in My Life?
Imagine this: You wake up in the morning to get ready for an important appointment. You go to the mirror to take a look at yourself. To no one’s surprise, your pajamas are wrinkled, your hair is kind of a mess, your eyes look a little tired, and your teeth could use a quick brush. But instead of changing your clothes or brushing your hair or teeth, you grab what you need for the day and you make your way out the door for your big appointment—messy PJs, bedhead, and all!
You would never do that, right? Well, according to James 1:22-24, when we only hear God’s Word with no intention of living it out, that’s what we’re doing! We’re allowing God’s Word to show us places in our lives where we need to change. But instead of living out that change, we shrug and move right along. God’s Word isn’t just there for us to read it; we’re supposed to live it out!
With that in mind, let’s look at today’s question to help us find our life verse: What verse of Scripture do I want to see lived out in my life?
If we don’t want to be like the version of ourselves we saw in our little imagined scenario earlier, then we want to actually live out God’s Word in our day-to-day life. We want to be doers of the Word, not just hearers.
Choosing a life verse, such as Galatians 5:22-23, which calls us to live in love, patience, and faithfulness, is a great way to be a doer and not just a hearer of God’s Word. Holding to scriptures like this demonstrates that we’re serious about our faith and showing the world the transforming power of the gospel of Jesus Christ. Scripture is meant to be lived out. So, consider ways you can move past mere reading to actually putting a meaningful verse into practice. God’s grace will help you do this, and the world around you will notice! Just try it and see!
Thought of the Day: It’s not enough for me to open my Bible every day and read what it says. A life verse that helps me keep in mind the call, character, and conduct of a Christian can motivate me toward real life application and transformation as I grow in Christ.
