What Verse in Scripture Encourages My Passion for Christ?

If you’ve ever been responsible for keeping a campfire going, you know it’s not a ‘set it and forget it’ situation. Even if the initial flame seems strong, and the fire shows no signs of going out, if the flames are left unattended long enough, the fire will go out. Sadly, what’s true for campfires is also true for our spiritual lives. When we neglect to stoke the flames inside of our hearts for Christ, they begin to burn out. We have to fan the flames inside to stay on fire for Christ.

This brings us to our next question to help us find our life verse: What verse in scripture encourages my passion for Christ?

It’s a sad fact that our hearts don’t remain constant. Even when we have come to faith in Christ, the passion we experience the moment we say ‘yes’ to Jesus, isn’t enough to sustain a life of dedication to Christ. Life distracts us, trials test us, the enemy works against us, and if we aren’t stoking the flames of affection for Christ in our hearts, our hearts can grow cold.

So, how can we keep the flame of passion for Christ alive in our hearts? As Hebrews 12:2 tells us, we have to keep our eyes on Jesus. While we can’t literally set our physical eyes on Jesus, we can look to Him through the Scriptures. You see, the Bible doesn’t just tell us about Jesus; it gives us an opportunity to know Jesus. The foreshadowing of Christ in the Old Testament, the stories of his life and ministry in the Gospels, and the words of the epistles all come together to paint a portrait of Jesus that we can hold in our hearts.

Verses like Philippians 2:10-11 remind us of Christ’s victory. Verses like Galatians 2:20 remind us of Christ’s sacrifice and His power within us. Verses like Romans 8:39 assure us of His never-ending love for us. It’s hard to not get excited or feel a renewed passion for Christ when we think of verses like these. So, look to God’s Word and fan the flame in your heart for Christ today!

Thought of the Day: It can be easy to let my walk with Christ take a backseat to other priorities in life, but a life verse that encourages my passion for Christ can keep eyes fixed on Christ as I press on to know Him better every day.
