Teach Us to Pray

DAY 7 OF 7

The Declaration of Praise

It's essential to note that this portion is not present in the earliest and most reliable manuscripts of the New Testament. It is commonly found in later manuscripts and liturgical traditions and is often included in modern Christian versions of the Lord's Prayer.

The concluding part of the Lord's Prayer, "For thine is the kingdom, the power, and the glory forever and ever," is known as the Doxology. It serves as a powerful declaration of praise and acknowledgement of God's Sovereignty, Omnipotence, and Eternal Glory.

The Kingdom: By declaring that the Kingdom is God's, we affirm His Absolute Authority and Rulership over all of Creation. It is an acknowledgement that God is the Ultimate King and His Reign extends beyond earthly realms into the spiritual and eternal dimensions. We recognise that God's Kingdom is not bound by time or place, and it stands as an everlasting and unshakeable domain.

The Power: This part of the Doxology underscores the Omnipotence of God. It highlights His Infinite and Unmatched Power to create, sustain, and govern the Universe. It serves as a reminder that God's Power is not limited by human constraints, and it encompasses all aspects of existence, from the grandest cosmic events to the most intricate details of our lives.

The Glory: To declare that the Glory belongs to God is to acknowledge His Unmatched Splendour, Majesty, and Magnificence. God's Glory radiates through His Creation, His Works, and His Character. It is an invitation for us to recognise and magnify His Greatness, giving Him the honour and praise that rightfully belong to Him alone.

Forever and Ever: The phrase "forever and ever" emphasises the eternal nature of God's Kingdom, Power, and Glory. It reinforces the idea that God's Reign has no end, His Power knows no limits, and His Glory is unceasing. This eternal perspective reminds us that God's Attributes are unchanging and enduring, offering us hope and assurance in an ever-changing world.

Reflections Questions

  • How can you apply the truths found in this Doxology to your relationships, work, and interactions with others?
  • What does it mean to you that God's Kingdom is described as eternal and unending?
  • In what ways can you bring glory to God through your daily actions and choices?

Prayer

To you, O God belongs all the glory. Your Splendour and Majesty are beyond compare. As I offer my praise and worship, may my life reflect the radiance of Your Glory. May I bring honour to Your Name in all that I do. May your Kingdom come into our lives, in our communities, and throughout the world, as I seek to live in accordance with Your Will. In Jesus Name, I pray. Amen.

Day 6

About this Plan

Teach Us to Pray

The Lord's Prayer, a cornerstone of Christian devotion, has the potential to become rote and mechanical when recited daily without deeper contemplation. Yet, within each line of this prayer, Jesus imparted profound wisdom and spiritual significance to His disciples. Join me on a 7-day devotional journey as we peel back the layers of familiarity and seek to make this prayer deeply personal and profoundly meaningful.
