Promises in the Psalms

DAY 30 OF 46

Promises: Today’s Work. Tomorrow’s Trust.

Reflect on your life. Think about the ways God has worked. Contemplate God’s protection and guidance. Sometimes he has protected you from others; sometimes he protected you from yourself. He is…and always will be…your refuge.

Today’s psalm is written by an older person reflecting on the past years. The psalmist is thankful that God has always been present and reminds us that he will always be with us.

Psalm 71:1-8
In you, Lord, I have taken refuge; let me never be put to shame. In your righteousness, rescue me and deliver me; turn your ear to me and save me. Be my rock of refuge, to which I can always go; give the command to save me, for you are my rock and my fortress. Deliver me, my God, from the hand of the wicked, from the grasp of those who are evil and cruel. For you have been my hope, Sovereign Lord, my confidence since my youth. From birth I have relied on you; you brought me forth from my mother’s womb. I will ever praise you. I have become a sign to many; you are my strong refuge. My mouth is filled with your praise, declaring your splendor all day long.

Confidence for tomorrow is found in God’s work yesterday. He will be your rock of refuge in the future just as he was in the past. Remember the God that never changes has carried you to this point and he is not about to leave you now. Thank him for his work yesterday. Trust him for his work tomorrow.

Father, thank you for your great work in my past. Thank you for being my strong refuge. Thank you for never leaving me. Thank you for your continual forgiveness. Thank you that I am safe and secure in you. Because I have experienced your work, I can trust you today and tomorrow. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
