4 Lies About Money the World Wants You to Believe (And the Biblical Truth)

DAY 2 OF 4

The world loves to sell us on the idea of getting rich quick, doesn't it?

As we explore this, take a few minutes to examine whether this lie has taken root in your heart. If so, let's meditate on these scriptures and prayerfully ask God to replace the lie with the truth of His word.

The world’s lie: “Keep trying to get rich quick, it’ll be different this time.”

The Truth: Attempting to get rich quickly is an exercise in futility. Money that comes quickly goes quickly and the key to building wealth is to go slow and steady.

Now, you might think, "But what about all those stories of overnight millionaires?"

Well, here is what the Word says:

Proverbs 13:11 says, "Wealth gained hastily will dwindle, but whoever gathers little by little will increase it."

Put another way, trying to get rich quickly is like trying to fill a bucket with a hole in it. Even if you do start to fill it up, it's just going to leak out again.

And then there's Proverbs 20:21, which says, "An inheritance claimed too soon will not be blessed at the end."

This is illustrated by the fact that 70% of lottery winners end up losing it all within just a few years. And many of them say they wish they would have never won in the first place.

The simple truth is that wealth that comes too easily or too quickly often doesn't lead to blessing or happiness.

Instead, let’s start building wealth the right way: slow and steady. Let's be diligent, patient, and wise with our money. Because at the end of the day, it's not about how quickly we can fill our bank account, but how faithfully we manage what God has given us.
