Lent Journey

DAY 6 OF 39

DAY 6
Father

Jesus knows who He is, and who his God is.

The first word Jesus utters while on the cross is ‘Father’. Jesus knows that God is his Father – a deeply connected loving relationship. This is his primary consciousness.

I recall the day He went to the River Jordan, to be baptised by John the Baptist. It was a significant day for Him. When He rose from water, a voice from heaven said: ‘This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased.’ Matt 3:17

His rising out of the water is like a birth. It is the birth of a new era, the beginning of his ministry. Together with this new beginning is the voice that confirms who He is – He is a beloved, blessed who has favour with his Father. His Father finds joy in Him. It is poignant. God confirms that He is Jesus’ Father. ‘This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased.’ Jesus has no doubt who He is, and to whom He belongs. What He thinks, says and does flow from this consciousness. It is rooted so strongly within Him, that not even the suffering that awaits can change this knowledge.

I too want to live with this consciousness. Like Jesus, I want to know who I am, and who my God is. I want to hear God’s voice telling me that I am his beloved who brings Him great joy.

Part of my journey is to constantly hear this voice and to develop this consciousness.

The Holy Spirit speaks to us deep in our hearts and tells us that we are the children of God. Rom 8:16 (LB)

EXERCISE
As part of your prayer today, take a few minutes to sit with your Father, who calls you his beloved. The purpose is to just be with Him in silent prayer*.
• If your thoughts begin to wander, keep coming back to your intention to just be with your Father. You can do this by repeating the word ‘Father’ and letting go of your thoughts.
• Go into your day with the prayer word ‘Father’ and repeat it as often as you think about it.
